Richard I of Burgundy

Richard I of Burgundy, called the Justiciero (died in 921) was Count of Autun from 880, and first Duke of Burgundy, after obtaining the sovereignty of all the duchies of the Burgundy, except Mâcon. In 890 already it was quoted to him like Dux (Duke) and, in 900, like Marchio (Margrave). In 918, it was already known as dux Burgundionem or dux Burgundiae, which would probably mean more feudal sovereignty over a large number of counties in a specific region than the existence of a unified Burgundian duchy.
