Falana

Map of Thessaly at the time of the third Macedonian war showing the situation of the town of Falana near the river Peneo.

Falana (Greek, Φάλαννα) is the name of an ancient Greek city of Thessaly. Its inhabitants were called phalanxes.

Strabo was situated in the district of Perrebia, on the banks of the Peneo River, near the Tempe Valley, but also mentions that some considered Falana to be the acropolis of Orta.

It is also mentioned by Livy, near Milas and Girtón, in the context of the third Macedonian war between Romans and Perseus troops of Macedonia.
