Church of Our Lady of the Assumption (The Gardens)

The parish church of Our Lady of the Assumption of the town of Los Huertos (province of Segovia, Spain) is located at the entrance to the village by the road, separated from the town by the San Medel stream, tributary of the river Eresma .

In its origin (XVI century) is a Gothic building that was made reforms in the Baroque period (XVIII century). The bulk of the work is done between 1583 and 1587.

The tower begins a few years later, in 1593 in particular, and its construction is completed in 1618 although its payment is not paid for until 1623 due to a lawsuit with the builder. Between 1594 and 1598 the tombs were made inside the church. The pulpit, 1602, is the work of the barefooted Carmelite friars, who collected two fanegas of barley for the construction and one of rye for transportation and assembly. In 1606 the altarpiece is made, baroque of five streets and attic, where the image of the Immaculate Conception is enthroned, and in 1630 the carpentry of the tower, and the staircase.

The interior brickwork is 1645, the main bell of 1673 and the drawer in black poplar wood from 1731. Three years later the weather vane is placed.

It is believed that in 1737 a major reform was carried out that greatly modified the construction. This reform would have lasted three years and would have cost about 13,000 reales, materials apart.
