The family Gysin with the variants Gysi, Gisi and Gisin originates originally from Läufelfingen in the Swiss landscape of Basel, where it has been demonstrable since the early 15th century. From the 15th century onwards, it spread to other municipalities in the Basel region and also to the city of Basel.

From the 16th century onwards the sex also established itself outside the landscape of Basel. Under the name of Gysi it spread in the Aargau and in the Bernese Unterseen, under the name of Gisi they were settled in the cantons of Solothurn and Zurich. The founder of the Berlin line is the silk painter Samuel Gysin from Läufelfingen, who settled in Berlin with his family in 1731/32. His descendants include the two politicians Klaus Gysi and Gregor Gysi. Edit source text Edit source text Weblinks Edit sourcetext
