Nothing is known about the origin of Hans Blietels. The springs are also silent on his encounter with the Anabaptist movement, and especially with the Hutterers. Reported is only about the end of its effectiveness as a Hutterian missionary as well as about its martyrdom. In the summer of 1545 Blietel then took a seat in the house of a Rieder citizen, who gave himself up as a brother of faith, in order to receive the head-money premium which had been issued for the baptism of the bishop. This betrayed him. On the run, Blietl was caught in Obernberg and handed over to the authorities in Ried. After several unsuccessful attempts to persuade Blietel to turn away from his Anabaptists' views, he was sentenced to death on the pyre. Eyewitnesses reported that he was still preaching in the flames and singing praises. The traitor is said to have taken his life a short time later, deeply impressed by the faithfulness of Hans Blietels.

An epigraphic poem is written by an unknown composer, which describes in 44 verses the martyrdom of Hans Blietels. Weblinks Edit sourcetext Edit source text Single-level Edit source text
