East Switzerland was a Catholic newspaper, founded in 1874 in the blazing cultural struggle. For decades the CVP-Postille had a loyal readership and with the chief editors Carl Doka, Edgar Oehler and Marco Volken also prominent heads at the top. The newspaper was in a state of misery with the abatement of the cultural struggle and the pluralization of political attitudes. Eastern Switzerland did not manage the balancing act between the Party and the Forum.

Immediate cause for the out in December 1997 was the departure of the Wiler newspaper from the OK listing combination. This combination was so weakened that a continuation would have made no sense. The approximately 20,000 subscribers went to the St. Galler Tagblatt for about 6 million francs. Weblinks Edit sourcetext Former, former and Catholic newspapers of Switzerland
