The Free Os takes over from L'Os à Moelle, a newspaper founded in 1938 by Pierre Dac and presented as "the official organ of the wacky". The latter scuttled on May 31, 1940, at the entrance of the Germans in Paris.

The Free Bone was first published on October 11, 1945. It will not have the success of its illustrious predecessor. The last issue (102) dates from October 15, 1947, according to the sheet dedicated to Pierre Dac ("The Free Os (102 issues from October 11, 1945 to October 15, 1947)." 43.5 cm x 61.8 cm date of Wednesday, September 10, 1947.
