Skunk works
Three SR-71A in various production stages at the Lockheed Skunk Works (Site 2, Air Force Plant 42, Palmdale)
Skunk works are called secret projects (also known as black projects). The term is also used for projects that are performed by employees who do not know the company's management (for example, porting the Linux kernel to the IBM S / 390).
Originally, the name Skunk Works was used as a semi-official designation for the Lockheed Advanced Development Projects Unit at Lockheed Martin, which was instrumental in the development of many, sometimes secret aircraft projects
The term is supposed to go back to the Comic Li'l Abner of Al Capp. There, an unspecified product is created at the Skonk Works factory using skunks (English skunk). Weblinks Edit sourcetext
