Rinaldo Piaggio
Rinaldo Piaggio (Genoa, 15 July 1864 - Genoa, 15 January 1938) was an Italian businessman and senator.
BiographyHe founded Piaggio in Sestri Ponente in 1884, first venturing into the manufacture of naval furniture, and then into the railway industry. In 1915 he bought the "Aeronautical Workshops Francesco Oneto", and began to build components for the aeronautics industry. In 1924 he began to manufacture under license the first Jupiter engines and the Dornier Wall aircraft. In the 1930s he built several aircraft, both fighters and bombers, as did the Piaggio P.108, the only Italian four-engined bomber. His sons Armando (1901 - 1978) and Enrico (1905 - 1965) inherited his company by expanding it also to the motorcycle industry after World War II.
In 1934 he was elected senator of the Kingdom of Italy.
