Peter Marcuse (born 13 November 1928 in Berlin), son of Herbert Marcuse, was a professor at Columbia University in New York from 1975 to 2003.

He completed his bachelor's degree in Harvard in 1948. The following year he married Frances Bessler, who worked as an au pair with Franz and Inge Neumann, friends and colleagues of his father Herbert. In 1953, 1957 and 1965 they got the children Irene, Harold and Andrew. Previously, he had received the Doctor of Jurisprudence (JD) from Yale in 1952. In 1963 he earned a Master's degree in Columbia, a Master's degree in Yale in 1968, and a Doctor of Planning from UC Berkeley in 1972. Subsequently, he taught at UCLA until 1975.
