Þóroddur Gamlason

Þóroddur Gamlason (n. 1085) was a scholar and priest of Iceland in the twelfth century, one of the alleged perpetrators of the first grammatical treatise. According to Jóns saga helga, he became an expert in grammar thanks to the attention paid to the instructions of Bishop Jón Ögmundsson. Little is known about his personal life, although some theories relate him to Þóroddur rúnameistari, a master stonemason of runes ( The Sturlunga saga cites that it was a good bóndi, but did not have much credit between the authorities.
