Marauder

Marauder is, or was, a research project of the United States government. It is an acronym for Magnetically Accelerated Ring to Achieve Ultra-high Directed Energy and Radiation (accelerated magnetic ring for achieving ultra-high directed energy and radiation). It was first documented on August 1, 1993.

The goal appears to be to shoot a torus of 1 meter in diameter magnetically contained plasma. Toroids behave similarly to Spheromak plasma reactors. The 1993 project seemed to be in the early experimental states. The weapon was able to produce plasma rings and ray beams that explode with devastating effects when they reach their target. The initial success of the project led to its being classified and there is no further data available on how it was developed after 1993.
