Mackenzie Peninsula

The Mackenzie Peninsula is a steep and rocky peninsula that forms the western end of Laurie Island in the archipelago of the Southern Orkney Islands.

Discovered and co-ordinated in 1821 by the British seal captain George Powell (1794-1824) on the Dove and the American navigator Nathaniel Palmer on the Hero. A detailed cartographic survey took 1903 participants of the Scottish National Antarctic Expedition, led by William Speirs Bruce. Bruce named the peninsula after his wife Jessie, born Mackenzie.
