Gumarang Orkes
Orkes Gumarang (English: Gumarang Band) was a band from Indonesia, one of the pioneering bands in Indonesia's music industry. The band remained active from the 1950s to the 1970s. The musicians belonged to the Minangkabau ethnic group, originally from the west of the island of Sumatra, their musical production was recorded in Jakarta, far from their cultural center.
His musical style is commonly known as "Sumatra Mambo", based on the style of Latin mambo music, originally from Cuba, influenced by the music of the minangkabaus.
The band formed in late 1953 in Jakarta, by Alidir (leader), Anwar Anif, Dhira Suhud, Joeswar Khairudin, Taufik, Syaiful Nawa and Awaludin. The name of the band derives from the famous legend Minang, meaning 'Kaba Cindua Mato' and 'Gumarang', meaning magic horse, owned by Cindua Mato. Discography (partial)
