Fernet Stock or Stock is a flavored liqueur, flavored with caramel and bitter taste ("bíter") made in Italy, Argentina and the Czech Republic, with an alcohol content of 40 to 41%, made from a mixture of 14 different herbs originating in the Alps and the Mediterranean. A less bitter and alcoholized variant has been marketed since 1997 under the name Fernet Stock Citrus.
The Stock was invented by the company Camis & Stock Company, founded in 1884 by Lionello Stock in the Italian city of Trieste, then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and made in the factory of this city for its commercialization, from 1927. The company was the object of several nationalization processes and during the World War II, requisitioned by the authorities in application of anti-Semitic laws of the National Socialist regime. The production also expanded to the Plzeň-Božkov factory in the Czech Republic where it reached widespread popularity after the Velvet Revolution.
