Franchise history

The franchise was founded in 1950 as Mainichi Orions and has since been part of the Pacific League. In the first year of the championship and its existence as a club the Orions managed to win the Japan Series of 1950. In 1964 the team was renamed Tokyo Orions, and in 1969 it changed its name to Lotte Orions once again. Korean-Japanese company Lotte took the franchise. The team took the title of Division in 1960, 1970 and 1974, and returned to win a Japan Series in 1974.

In 1992 the team made a radical change. With the transfer of the franchise to Chiba they pass to its current denomination of Chiba Lotte Marines. In 2005 the Marines won the Division championship and reached the Japan Series, beating the Hanshin Tigers. That same year they also gained the Konami Glass when beating to the Samsung Lions of South Korea. Awards Franchise Names
