Chabaquíes


The people of Chabaquies or Shabaks are an ethnic and religious minority living in Iraq. Most live in the villages of Ali Eash, Khazna, Yangidja and Tallara in the Sinjar district of Nineveh. characteristics

Its language skabaki is a language of the northwest of Iran very similar to the hawraman and the goran dialect of the Kurdish language. Most of the town identifies itself like Kurd. It is believed that there were 15,000 chabaquies in the 1970s, but today it is estimated to be 60,000. Chabaquies consist of three different ta'ifs or sects. There are the bajalanes and dawoodies, which are sects of the Kurds as well as the zengana.

Chabaquies worship an independent religion but related to Christianity and Islam.

They are said to be descendants of Qizilbash from Shah Ismail I's army.
