Ōtomo no Otomaro


This is a Japanese name; the surname is {{{1}}}. Ōtomo no Otomaro (Ō 伴 弟 麻 呂, Ōtomo no Otomaro) (731? - 14 of June of 809) was a Japanese general of the Nara era and beginnings of the Heian era, member of the clan Ōtomo. He was the first military man to win the title of sei-taishōgun or "great general who subjugates the barbarians" in 794, for his work along with Sakanoue no Tamuramaro, who fought against the Ainu, a tribe considered barbarian that dominated at that time the islands of Hokkaidō and the northern part of Honshu. His father was Ōtomo no Koshibi.
