Taquaritinga


Taquaritinga is a city in the north of the central area of ​​the State of São Paulo, Brazil. It has about 54000 inhabitants (2000), more than 90% of them live in the urban area. The population consists mainly of descendants of Europeans (Italians, Spaniards, Portuguese). Afro-Brazilians, Japanese and Brazilians-minority groups are important. The climate is tropical at dry altitude with warm and temperate winters of rainy summer. The economy of the city is based on agribusiness (sugar cane, orange, lemon, and fruit) and services. The city has an old and famous regional music school (Santa Cecília Conservatory), a State Technical School (ETE), and three universities. The most important of them, FATEC, is a public with courses on technology. Club Atlético Taquaritinga, founded in 1942, is the city's football club. The club plays its matches at home Adail N. Estádio da Silva, which has a maximum capacity of approximately 20,000 people.
