Sebastião Fernandes Tourinho was a Brazilian bandeirante. With Francisco Bruza de Espinosa or Martim de Carvalho, he was one of the first explorers to cross the lands currently belonging to the state of Minas Gerais.
As detailed by the German painter and engraver Johann Moritz Rugendas in his work "A journey through picturesque Brazil" (1835), "Sebastião Fernandes Tourinho was the first Portuguese who, from the coast, penetrated the interior of the country. Departing from Porto Seguro in 1573, it ascended by the Doce River to the vicinity of Vila Rica ... ".
