Giovanni Ambrogio Mazenta


Giovanni Ambrogio Mazenta (Milan, 1565- Rome, December 23, 1635) was an Italian clergyman and architect, pertaining to the congregation of the Barnabite Fathers. He designed and collaborated in the works of numerous religious, civil and military buildings.

Born in the heart of a rich Milanese family. He entered the congregation of the barnabites in 1591, when he was twenty-six. As an architect, he worked throughout Italy. Some of the most important buildings in which he took part were the church of the Holy Savior of Bologna (which he ordered to complete), the design of the church of St. Paul of Bologna and the cathedral of St. Peter of Bologna. In Naples he designed the church of Santa Catalina della Spina Corona and the church of San Carlo alle Mortelle.
