Five poems for voice and piano

Five poems for voice and piano are a set of vocal works by the composer Johannes Brahms, cataloged as Op.19. Composed between 1858 and 1859 are five poems titled Der Kuss, Scheiden und Meiden, En Reer Ferne, Der Schmied and An eine Aeolsharfe. Brahms biographer Karl Geiringer describes how the composer knew Agathe von Siebold, the daughter of a famous professor at the University of Göttingen, and lost his head for it, favored the composition of these works for voice, something that facilitated the interpretation of the work by Agatha, possessor of a magical voice qualified for it.
