Electronic production services

Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) is the global term used to designate, design, test, manufacture, distribute and offer repair and warranty services for components and electronic products to manufacturers of electronic components. Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM). History

SCI (previously, Space Craft Inc., now Sanmina-SCI) is considered the first EMS / contract assembly company in the United States.

The EMS industry took off in the late 1970s with the founding of Solectron. To date, the market consisted of dozens of small companies. Today, while the market is dominated by powerful companies like Foxconn, Flextronics, Celestica, Sanmina-SCI, Jabil, Elcoteq, Ikor and a few dozen more, a few thousand small companies continue to occupy EMS niche markets.

The EMS industry business model is based on specialization and economy of scale in manufacturing, stockpiling raw materials and pooling of expert resources in fields such as design (electronic and industrial) or repair / warranty with the order to create added value to the final product. This is customer loyalty, which does not need to manufacture and store large inventories of product. At the same time, sudden demand peaks can be addressed more quickly and efficiently.

Products manufactured by EMS companies are always tagged with the customer brand.
