Darwin Cubillán


Darwin Harrikson Cubillan Salom (born November 15, 1972 in Bobures, Zulia state, Venezuela) is a former major league baseball pitcher.

Originally signed as a free agent by the Yankees in 1993, Cubillan has played in the major leagues for the Toronto Blue Jays (2000), Texas Rangers (2000), Montreal Expos (2001) and Baltimore Orioles 2004. In the race of season three, Cubillán compiled a record of 1-0 with 54 strikes and a 6.85 ERA. Cubillan played in Japan for the Hanshin Tigers of the Central League, Nippon Professional Baseball (buyers) from 2005 to 2007. He played using his name "Darwin" because his last name Cubillán sounds "Kubi yan" (ク ビ や ん) means "He is fired, is not he?" in the Kansai dialect of Japan, and "Darwin" has the same spelling as the surname of an English naturalist Charles Darwin. In 2008, he signed with SK Wyverns in South Korea, but was released during the season. 1

In Venezuela he played from 1994 to 2001 with the Tigres de Aragua. That year, it is transferred to the Lions of Caracas in a change that involved the receiver Wiklenman González.
