Anfanas

Anfanas (Greek, Ἀμφαναί) is the name of an ancient Greek city of Thessaly.

It appears quoted in a fragment of Hecateo of Miletus mentioned by Stephen of Byzantium where it is described as a city doria.

It is also mentioned in the Pseudo-Escilax Periplo as a city in the territory of Thessaly, which relates to Pagasas.

Its location is doubtful and various locations have been proposed where it might have been located: Soros - but in this case the most recent excavations seem to indicate that this deposit is more likely to be identified with Pagasas - Damari, Palio Alikes and the palaikiokastro of Sesklou.
