A-91 (assault rifle)

The A-91 (also known as A-91M) is an assault rifle designed during the '90s by BKP in Tula, as a descendant of the family of A-91 compact rifles described in 9A-91. While the A-91 retains the gas-operated, rotating bolt action and trigger unit of the 9A-91, it features a bullpup design, with a 40mm integrated monohard grenade launcher under the barrel. The first prototypes of the A-91 bullpup were equipped with the grenade launcher on the barrel and with a vertical front grip; the current models are equipped with the grenade launcher under the barrel, which serves as a hand guard. It has a forward sheath ejection system, initially developed in Tula by designers such as Afanasiev in the 1960s. In this system, the ejector sale is located above the pistolet and points forward. The ejected pods are fed from the bolt head through the short ejection tube and fall out of the gun away from the shooter's face, even when it is fired from the left shoulder. At the moment, the A-91 is manufactured in small numbers and is probably used by some elite police units in Russia; is also offered for export and internal police and military sales.
