Journal of the History of Ideas

The Journal of the History of Ideas (JHI) is a specialist magazine on the history of ideas and has appeared quarterly since 1940. The journal was initially published for many decades by the Johns Hopkins University Press, and the University of Pennsylvania Press in Philadelphia has been the publisher since 2006.

The current editors are Warren Breckman, Martin Burke, Anthony Grafton, Ann Moyer and Donald R. Kelley. The JHI appears in English and is obliged to encourage differentiation in regional coverage, chronological order and methodological approach.

The Journal defines history as accessible and global, including interdisciplinary philosophy, history of literature, art history, history of science and social sciences, history of religion and political history. It also encourages research at the intersections of cultural and intellectual history, for example the history of the book and the visual culture.

Contributions to the JHI often examine the evolution of ideas and their influence on historical developments. The journal, which is relatively rare in Europe, promotes greater collaboration among scholars in all areas of the cultural and intellectual disciplines. Weblinks Edit sourcetext
