On April 16, 1993, Fernando Isern received the sacrament of priest ordination for the Archdiocese of Miami.
On 15 October 2009 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him to the Bishop of Pueblo. The archbishop of Denver, Charles Joseph Chaput OFMCap, donated the bishop's ordination to him on the 10th of this year; Co-conspirators were the Archbishop of Miami, John Favalora, and the emeritus bishop of Pueblo, Arthur Nicholas Tafoya.
