The secret of Gaudlin Hall (original title: This house is haunted) is a novel of 2013, whose author is the Irish writer John Boyne. History Set in the English of 1867, The Secret of Gaudlin Hall tells the story of Eliza Caine, hired to be the governess of children Isabella and Eustace Westerley, in the mansion of Gaudlin Hall. This should be a simple occupation for her, however, Eliza soon discovers that there is something totally out of the ordinary in her new job, both in the strange situation in which children live and in certain paranormal events that unfold in home. Eliza decides not only to unravel the mystery that surrounds the place, but to confront him and make both his life and that of Eustace and Isabella return to normality.
