South End Cave

The Cueva del Extremo Sur is a cave with rock representations located in the municipality of La Linea de la Concepción, province of Cádiz (Spain). It belongs to the group of rock deposits called Southern art, closely related to the rock art of the Mediterranean arch of the Iberian Peninsula.

This shelter was discovered by Uwe and Uta Topper and published in 1975 and is the southernmost cave paintings of the Iberian peninsula.

It is located on the southern slopes of Sierra Carbonera on military terrain. The shelter, of great dimensions, has a small hole like a window open to the west. The figures are a pilaster structure in the middle of the wall of the covacha. The yellow pectiniform symbols are formed by six parallel long horizontal lines with 7 or 5 small vertical lines in their inferior side, like way palisade. On them appear three other similar structures formed with points. Under these symbols, which resemble a tree, appears a bird in flight and other pectiniformes less visible.
