Lord Inchiquin (O'Carolan)

Lord Inchiquin is the title of a piece composed by Turlough O'Carolan in the 18th century, probably as a tribute to William O'Brien, 4 Earl and 9 Baron Inchiquin. Originally played on the harp, it has been repeatedly picked up by traditional Irish music players. According to Donal O'Sullivan, the headquarters of the O'Brien family was (and still is) Dromoland Castle in Newmarket-on-Fergus, County Clare, not far from Doonass where O'Carolan visited to the Reverend Charles Massey. It is very likely that this piece was composed during this stay.

This piece skilfully combines traditional Irish music with the fashion of baroque music, in addition to its beautiful melancholic air in D major. Notes &
