El Bovalar

Visigothic settlement of Bovalar

The Bovalar is an archaeological site of the Visigothic period, located in the municipality of Serós in the region of Segriá, formed by an abandoned village, a basilica with a baptistery and a necropolis.

The clustered houses, usually of three chambers, made of stone, were organized next to a community space, where there was an oil mill, a warehouse and the church.

The preexisting temple and village were abandoned after the Muslim invasion.

It was excavated from 1943 to 1987.
