Canarian-Saharan fishing bank
The Canarian-Saharan fishing bank is located on the north-western coast of Africa. It receives its name from bathing the waters of the Canaries and the Sahara.
Its richness is due to the presence of the current of the Canary Islands, a cold current, which thanks to the outcrops of deep water is very rich in nutrients.
The fishing bank has had great historical importance, since fishing in its waters has attracted from ancient times to towns like Phoenicians and Romans. The fishing operations in its different fishing grounds also explains the interest shown by the Crown of Castile in the conquest of the Canaries.
