The Poor Rabbi


O Pobre Rabequista is an oil painting on canvas from 1855 by José Rodrigues. It measures 170 x 122 cm and was originally acquired by Prince Consort D. Fernando de Saxe-Coburg (Fernando II of Portugal) is currently in the Chiado Museum collection. In one of the editions of the Diario Litteratura Ilustrada published in Coimbra in 1860, Manuel María Bordalo Pinheiro, father of Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro wrote the following in this table: "The frame of O Poor Rabequista is a real artistic work, decently placed at the height of some paintings by Velázquez ... ".

The painting is signed and dated, and is classified in the Museum of Chiado with paragraph 515. In the Revista de Bellas Artes, in section 3 of Lisbon, 1857, Rodrigo Paganino wrote several pages about the philosophy of this work. Exhibitions
