European Driver’s Desk

The European Driver's Desk (EUDD) is a new cross-producer European standard for the leadership table of railway vehicles. The EUDD is based on the arrangement of the display instruments to the DB unit leader, but deviates with respect to the operating philosophy. The division of the main control elements onto a traction lever, a lever for the pneumatic brake, and one for the dynamic brake are no longer felt as a result of the computer control of the traction and braking forces which is generally customary. The EUDD combines the pulling force and the dynamic brake into a parking brake lever with center position. A brake brake (FbV) with time-dependent control is generally available for the indirect brake. FbV of this type are no longer customary in Germany (here FBVs have been largely dependent on position since the post-war period), but are widespread in the rest of Europe. The specification of the EUDD covers, in addition to the controls, the display of the displays in the driver's cab.

The development phase of the EUDD leaderboard ran from 2001 to 2003. Concrete implementations were then implemented by various locomotive manufacturers, such as Bombardier in the TRAXX 2E.

Since 2010 the last state of standardization has been the so-called EUDDplus. This differs in details from the EUDD. A keyboard for textual data input is specified centrally in front of the operator. The Vsoll controller of the automatic speed control system, implemented as an up-down controller for the EUDD, is again implemented as a wide-range controller in the EUDDplus as in the DB unit master. The pilot platform for the EUDDplus was the Alstom Prima II.

In practice, the EUDD engines of some manufacturers showed inadequacies in the vehicle software which led to the possibility of pushing-up movements only with the help of measures. In the affected series, the brake and the traction power are locked against each other by the software so that it is not possible to apply power when the brake is applied, but this is often necessary for (de-) coupling to compress the buffers Edit sourcetext
