Legion of Silver

The Silver Legion (also known as the Silver Shirts) is an American fascist organization founded by William Dudley Pelley on January 30, 1933.

The emblem of the Silver Legion was a scarlet "L". This letter represented the beliefs of the group "Loyalty to the American Republic", "Liberation of materialism" and, logically, the very Legion of Silver. Their uniforms consisted of a cap identical to the one used by the German assault troops, blue corderoy trousers and tie and silver shirt with a red "L" on the heart.

By 1934, the Silver Jerseys had about 15,000 members, mainly from the middle class. The strength of the movement declined over the next four years, with only 5,000 members. Finally, the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941 led to the immediate collapse of the Silver Legion. Bibliography
