Ghostscript

Ghostscript (written by Peter Deutsch, founder of Aladdin Enterprises), is the program par excellence interpreter of documents in format PS (and also PDF).

Ghostscript allows you to display PS and PDF data on the screen and also translate them so that they can be printed on a printer with graphics capability using the printer driver.

Aladdin Enterprises maintains the new versions of Ghostscript until they reach a certain "age", and then releases them to the Free Software Foundation (FSF) for distribution as GNU Ghostscript. These versions are distributed "free of charge" in Linux distributions.

There are a number of driver devices for various printer types. If gs -h is indicated on the operating system command line, a large amount of information about the installed version of Ghostscript will appear on the computer, including the above mentioned devices.
