Palace of Urbasa or of the Marquess of Andía (Larraona)


The Palace of Urbasa or the Marquis of Andía is a 17th century building located in the community of the Mount of Limitations of the Foral Community of Navarre (Spain).

History

Built at the end of the 17th century by Fernando Ramírez de Baquedano, II Marquis de Andía, which had civil and criminal jurisdiction in the mountains of Urbasa and Andia. It was the prosecutor of the kingdom who urged the Royal Council Court to order the Marquis to manufacture this house and jail.

No member of the Baquedano family lived in the palace, which instead served as residence to the landlords of the Marquis. as well as the chaplain of the chaplaincy-abbey. Over time, the palace became the refuge of every passer-by from Urbasa and shepherds and herdsmen. The house was bought by Echávarri, an industrial logger from Olazagutia, who renovated the building and its surroundings, turning it into a hostel. Finally it was abandoned and the building passed to the Diputación Foral de Navarra. Description

Rectangular building articulated in four assembled bodies. Each of the angles is flanked by mochas towers, converging the rest of the building to a central courtyard. The hallway is an open porch with elegant carved stone arcade. The facade boasts the coat of arms of the Baquedano sculpted in stone to the baroque taste.

The building was not abandoned but sold. Later it has been abandoned by the government of Navarra that was who bought it. Conservation
