Leopold III of Austria

Leopold III of Austria (November 1, 1351 - July 9, 1386) was a nobleman of the Habsburg family and duke of Austria between 1365 and 1369; was also Duke of Styria and Carinthia. Lifetime

Born in Vienna, Leopold was the younger son of Albert II of Austria, and brother of Rudolf the Founder and Albert III. His mother, Juana de Pfirt, was 51 when she gave birth and died shortly thereafter.

At first he was appointed administrator of the Tyrol and was subsequently entrusted with the government of the Habsburg territories after the death of his brothers. However, according to the Treaty of Neuberg of 1379, Leopoldo became ruler of Styria, Carinthia, Carniola, Mark of Windisch, Gorizia, territories of the Habsburgs in Friuli, Tyrol and Previous Austria. In 1368 he acquired Freiburg from Brisgonia, in 1375 Feldkirch and in 1382 Trieste.

However, his attempts to expand in Switzerland and Swabia failed and Leopoldo lost his life in the battle of Sempach in 1386. Offspring

Leopoldo was married on 23 February 1365 to Viridis Visconti (1352-1414), the second daughter of Bernabé Visconti, Lord of Milan, and Beatrice Regina della Scala, with whom he had several children:

He was succeeded by his eldest son William. His other children were Leopold, who would become Duke of Austria Previous, Ernesto, future Duke of Inland Austria and Frederick, future Duke of Austria Previous
