Ei Arakawa (Japanese 荒 川 医 Arakawa Ei, born 1977 in Iwaki, Fukushima Prefecture) is a Japanese-American performance, installation and action artist living in New York City and Berlin.

Arakawa studied at the School of Visual Arts from 2000 to 2004 and from 2004 to 2006 at Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson. He completed the Whitney Independent Study Program in New York City in 2006. In 2009 Ei Arakawa received a scholarship from the New York Foundation for the Arts and took part in the Berlin artist program of the DAAD. He was the 2011 Artist in Residence of the Tokyo Wonder Site.2014, Arakawa was awarded the Villa Romana Prize.

Ei Arakawa is well-known for performance work, primarily with paintings, which are based on historical models such as Fluxus, the Japanese artist group Gutai or the multimedia collective Jikken Kōbō. The improvised choreographies are created in close collaboration with friends and leave open the status of actors, audience and object.
