José Mascote


José Mascote Aguirre (November 15, 1794 - November 4, 1859) was an Ecuadorian physician, writer, poet and translator. Biography

He was born on November 15, 1794 in the city of Guayaquil, his parents were the Panamanians Gregorio Mascote and Agustina Aguirre. He studied in Lima in May 1814 at the Royal College of Medicine and Surgery where he was a Bachelor in Medicine and Surgery.

He was president of the first "Medical Board" of republican life that Guayaquil had. In 1851 he was part of a Masonic group called "Society of Mutual Instruction". He died on November 4, 1859.
