The Tigrovaya Balka Nature Reserve is in Tajikistan the closure to the Afghan border where the Vajsh River and the Panj River unite to form the Amu Daria. The reserve stretches over 40 km from the southwest to the northeast.

Description

The 460 km2 reserve is described by WWF so the most important nature reserves in Central Asia, due to its large size and ecological diversity. It is also very important for rare species of tugay, or riparian forest, ecosystems. The climate is continental and dry, the different habitats of Tigrovaya Balka comprises semi-deserts, savannas-like prairies with pistachio trees and tugay vegetation with poplars, Elaeagnus angustifolia and herbs high. Fauna The area was one of the last bastions of the Caspian Tiger, whose tracks were last seen in the reserve in 1953. When today, Tigrovaya Balka is quiet house to the original main prey of the tiger, the rare Deer Bactrian. Other larger species of the reserve include Striped hyenas, golden jackals, Jungle Cats, wild boars, Persian Gazelles, porcupines, introduced otters, gray wolves, red foxes and also uriales hills.
