Antonio Tebaldeo

Antonio Tebaldeo (* 1463 in Ferrara, † 1537 ibid) was an Italian poet. Edit LifeQualtext

Antonio Tebaldeo was born in Ferrara where he was later educator of Isabella d'Este and then secretary of Lucretia Borgia. During the time of Pope Leo X, he went to Rome, where he enjoyed the papal support, and made friends there with writers and artists, including Raffael. Tebaldeo wrote numerous sonnets and shepherd poems in Latin and Italian. He is succeeded by Francesco Petrarcas. His poetry has a patriotic undertone, but today appears to be largely artificial. Tebaldeo's poems were first published in Ferrara in 1499 without his permission. They appeared in the 16th century in several re-editions.
