American Society of Clinical Oncology


The American Society of Clinical Oncology (American Society of Clinical Oncology) is a professional organization representing physicians from all of the specialties of oncology with cancer patients. It was founded in 1964 by doctors Fred Ansfield, Harry Bisel, Herman Freckman, Arnoldus Goudsmit, Robert Talley, William Wilson, and Jane Wright. Their more than thirty thousand members in the United States and other countries set the standards for the treatment of cancer on a global scale and are spearheading efforts to develop more effective treatments, get more funding for clinical and translational research, and find cures for all different types of cancer that affect about ten million people worldwide each year.
