Mark Coyne

Mark Coyne (born November 19, 1962) is an American musician and one of the founding members of the rock band The Flaming Lips. Coyne co-founded the band with his brother Wayne in Norman, Oklahoma in 1983. The band's original lineup consisted of Mark as vocalist, Wayne as guitarist and Michael Ivins as bassist. Mark left the band in 1985 (shortly after his ep debut The Flaming Lips) shortly before his wedding. After Mark's departure, Wayne assumed the role of lead singer and songwriter, becoming "one of the reasons for success of the band ".

Some of the 1985 demos with Mark as a vocalist appear on the compilation album Finally the Punk Rockers Are Taking Acid compilation.
