Artabazo I

Sucesor:

Farnaces II

Pharnabazo belonged to a noble family of the high Persian elite. His father, Artabazo I, was satrap of Phrygian Phyla. The Farnacized dynasty began with his grandfather Farnaces, uncle and notable personage of the court of Darío I. From that moment the descendants of Farnaces were always very close to the king.

Very little is known about the life or acts of Farnabazo. It seems that around the year 455 a. C. would have taken the government of the satrapía, being happened by its son Farnaces II before the year 430 a. C.

So little is known about Farnabazo that it is possible that he did not even become satrap. His father still served the king in 449 BC. C. and some scholars believe that Farnabazo served his father. In this theory, Artabazo would directly succeed his grandson Farnaces.
