Seven Stones

"Seven Stones" is a song by the progressive rock band Genesis from their third album: "Nursery Cryme". It was written in the spring of 1971 and recorded in August of the same year. It is characterized by being a simple song of moderate tempo and vocal harmonies reminiscent of the group's first works ("Pacidy", "In Hiding").

It tells the story of an old man, who lets opportunities give way to his life. "Seven Stones" is endowed with a well-made melody, but its lack of ambition prevents the song from occupying an important place in the heart of the listener.

The title of the song is an allusion to the Bible: seven stones, seven headstones or seven houses as it also seems to imply in the letter. Seven Stones has been performed live on very few occasions, did not survive the release of Foxtrot's next album, and there is no official live recording of it.

The song was played occasionally on the previous tour of the recording of Foxtrot. Apparently it was only played during the tour of Italy in 1972. The only version in existence is a concert in Genoa on August 22, 1972, and is not even complete.
