Amelia to the Ball (Amelia Goes to the Ball) is an opera bufa in an act with music and libreto in Italian of Gian Carlo Menotti. It premiered at the Philadelphia Academy of Music on April 1, 1937. History

It is the first opera Gian Carlo Menotti and follows the tradition of Italian verismo, although with Puccinian melodic influences. It is the composer's only opera written in Italian. The translation of the English version, Amelia goes to the ball, was work of Georg Mead.

This opera is very little represented; in the statistics of Operabase appears with only 5 representations in the period 2005-2010. Argument

Amelia wants to ardently participate in the first dance of the season. Whoever must accompany her, the husband, has just discovered that he has been betrayed and wants to know with whom, in exchange for the promise to go to the dance. Amelia reveals that the lover is the upstairs tenant. After fighting and threats, a police commissioner arrives, with whom Amelia was finally able to go to the ball.
