Christel Goltz


Christel Goltz was a German dramatic soprano who was born in Dortmund in 1912 and died in Baden bei Wien near Vienna in November 2008, famous for her interpretations of Salome and Elektra.

Karl Böhm hired her in 1936 for the Dresden Opera and in 1944, the Wiener Staatsoper where he shook as Salome by Richard Strauss staying on the Viennese stage for more than twenty seasons in 28 roles and 430 functions. She was widely admired at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Milan, London, Paris, Zurich and the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires where she sang in 1951-53 Salomé, Elektra, Jenufa, Senta, Octavian, Fidelio , Wozzeck and The Castle of Bluebeard.

Other roles were Renata in The Angel of Fire by Prokofiev, Rezia, Agata, Abigaille, Amelia, Tosca, Desdemona, Die Frau ohne Schatten, Leonora, Turandot, Jocasta and Antigone by Carl Orff and Penelope by Rolf Liebermann who created the world premiere of 1954. Discography Bibliography
