Mesolithic Horn made of Motala

The mesolithic Horn made of an antler (from Motala) (F454) is from the Middle Stone Age and was found in Motala in Östergötland, Sweden in 2010.

Motala is located on the east bank of the river Vättern and the river Motala. The site is one of the richest mesolithic sites in the north of Scandinavia from the period between 6000 and 4000 BC, Chr. The excavations in the moist sediment of the river Motala have produced large quantities of bone material and wood objects which have rarely been preserved in the other context. Most are harpoons and fish spears.

The phallus-like find is about 12 cm long and has a diameter of two centimeters. The period of development of the object from the antler of a Rothirsch was determined by the method of radiocarbon to the years 5650-5340 v. Chr. Weblinks Edit sourcetext Single-level Edit source text
